MBBS Admission 2024: Qualifications, Costs, Universities, and NEET Test

Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is one of the most preferred and prestigious courses in India. By completing an MBBS degree, candidates become qualified doctors. Pursuing MBBS is a challenging task, as students are tested at every stage of becoming a doctor. Candidates dreaming to become a doctor should know the process of MBBS admission 2024.

Every year millions of students dream of studying medicine. However, only a few manage to secure MBBS admission in India. Getting an MBBS seat is a highly competitive affair. More than 20 lakh aspirants compete every year to get a seat in the renowned medical college in India. The very first challenge candidates face getting MBBS admission is qualifying for the NEET.

Admission to MBBS in 2024

The NEET exam is administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA) once a year. According to the Supreme Court of India, NEET-UG is the only national entrance exam required for MBBS admission in India. The NEET exam is also used to grant admission to 250 seats in JIPMER and over 2,000 MBBS seats in AIIMS institutions. Based on NEET results, admission to 600+ medical colleges, 15+ AIIMS, and 2 JIPMER institutions is available for MBBS students. The competition for MBBS admission in 2024 is escalating rapidly when compared to the number of available seats and the number of applicants who take the exam.

Many students who receive low qualifying marks on the NEET exam find it difficult to gain admission to government medical colleges. On the other hand, private MBBS colleges have very expensive tuition. Due to the expensive tuition, many middle-class students in India find it difficult to be admitted to MBBS programs. These students’ only chance of getting into an Indian MBBS program is if they pass the NEET exam.

The NTA’s stringent admissions screening procedure for MBBS is solely determined by an applicant’s score on the NEET exam. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) oversees the additional MBBS admission 2024 process following the release of the NEET results. 15% All India Quota, deemed/central universities, Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), and Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) institutes are among the institutions to which MCC offers MBBS admission. The counseling authorities of each state award MBBS admission to the remaining 85% of state quota seats.

What is the duration of MBBS?

An MBBS programme lasts for approximately five and a half years on average. Four and a half years of academic training and a mandatory one-year rotating internship are included in the length of this MBBS program. Students receive extensive instruction in a range of medical subjects throughout their academic careers, in addition to clinical rotations and real-world experience. The internship, which takes place in the final year, gives students hands-on experience in a variety of medical specialties while they work in hospitals under the supervision of seasoned medical professionals. Graduates of the MBBS program are qualified to practice medicine after passing the program and, if they so choose, to pursue postgraduate studies for additional specialization.

MBBS Admission 2024 – Qualifications

India’s MBBS Admission Process for 2024

Candidates are admitted to the MBBS program based on how well they performed on the national entrance exam, or NEET. View the Indian MBBS admissions procedure below.

Entrance examinations for MBBS

As previously mentioned, there is only one all-India medical entrance exam—the NEET—for admission to MBBS programs. The medical entrance exam is administered by NTA and is based on the NEET-UG syllabus, which covers material from the CBSE classes 11 and 12. MBBS admission candidates have three hours and twenty minutes to complete 180 multiple-choice questions out of 200 questions based on the NEET exam pattern.

The Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany + Zoology) sections make up the three sections of the NEET 2024 question paper. The NEET biology section is the most important, with 100 questions that must be answered correctly to receive 360 points. With a total of 100 questions and 180 marks each, the final two sections of the NEET question paper carry equal weight.

In order to be admitted to medical schools in India, candidates must meet the NTA NEET cutoff. The 50th percentile of NEET is the cutoff for MBBS admission for candidates in the general category. The 40th percentile of the NEET is the cut-off point for candidates in the reserved category. The only applicants who qualify for additional counseling for MBBS admission are those who meet the NEET cutoff scores and percentile. MBBS admission is determined by the NEET result and cutoff, which is used by all medical colleges, AIIMS, and JIPMER.

What comes after passing the NEET exam?

Candidates may take part in the AIQ counseling process for MBBS admission at the federal, state, and local levels after they have met the requirements for the NEET exam. The NTA will compile a list of candidates who meet NEET-UG requirements. Students who make the short list are eligible for NEET counseling. Students must register on the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) portal in order to take part in the counseling and seat assignment process.

For 15% of the All India Quota, deemed/central universities/AFMS, and ESIC institutes, MCC will handle the NEET counseling. Students must register using their personal and NEET-related information, pay the counseling fee, and indicate their course and college preferences during the MBBS admissions counseling process. MCC will conduct the NEET UG seat allotment based on the candidates’ choices, NEET All India Rank, reservation, and seat matrix. Those who are offered a seat during the MBBS admission 2024 seat allotment process must report to the designated institute.
